Top 7 · #5 of 40 in Strategy
A classic in which you play a 15th-century lord of the French region of Burgundy, using your dice results to expand your estate and pile up points. Deep strategy hides inside the simple rules, so newcomers to euro games and long-time fans alike keep coming back to it.
1. Setup
Everyone gets the same player board, and hex tiles of each color are laid out at random on the central board. You begin with 2 starting tiles placed on your estate.
2. Turn flow
You roll 2 dice and take a tile from the matching depot on the central board or from your own storage space, then place it on a space with the same number on your player board, sell goods, or use it right away as a worker.
3. Key rules
Fill one region of your player board (an area of tiles of the same color) completely and you immediately get a bonus - victory points, money, workers, and so on. The game runs for 5 phases of 5 rounds each, so 25 rounds in total.
4. End condition
The game ends once 5 phases, 25 rounds in all, have gone by. You add up the bonuses for completed regions plus points for leftover goods and silverlings, and the player with the highest score wins.

💡 Master tip
Pick up special abilities early with the yellow tiles (knowledge), and keep the flexibility to hold a die result as a tile in your storage space and place it at the moment you want. Aiming at regions you can finish quickly, so you do not miss the phase bonus, also makes a big difference in points.
If this one has gotten too easy, try these — same feel, one step up in weight.
