Terraforming Mars

You run a huge corporation, raising the oxygen and the temperature of Mars and placing ocean tiles to turn it into a place people can live. The heart of the game is combining the many projects on the cards to build your own resource production engine.

Rules

1. Setup

Each player is dealt a corporation card with its own ability and sets up starting money (megacredits) and production. You look at 10 starting project cards and buy only the ones you want to keep in hand.

2. Turn flow

Each generation (round), you look at 4 cards in the research phase and buy as many as you want, then in the action phase players take turns playing cards, taking standard projects (greenery, city, power plant, and so on), and converting resources until everyone passes.

3. Key rules

Every time you raise one of the three global parameters - temperature, oxygen, and oceans - your terraform rating (TR) goes up and you score 1 point right away. Cards have requirements (tags, parameter levels), so you have to meet the conditions before you can play them.

4. End condition

Once temperature reaches +8 degrees, oxygen 14%, and all 9 ocean tiles are placed, the game ends at the end of that generation, and the player with the most points wins after adding TR, card points, and city and greenery bonuses.

💡 Master tip

Early on, secure cards that raise your production (energy and plants especially) so your engine runs later, and time the rises in the global parameters to match the requirements on your cards. Lining cards up in advance for tag synergy makes your late-game combos far more efficient.
