Cascadia

A relaxing tile-laying puzzle game set in the Pacific Northwest of North America, in which you connect habitat tiles and wildlife tokens in harmony. Each turn you pick one of the habitat-and-wildlife pairs on display in the middle and widen your own landscape, aiming for placements that match how each animal scores.

Rules

1. Setup

Reveal five wildlife scoring cards to set how scoring works this game, and set up each player's personal board with its starting habitat tiles and wildlife tokens.

2. Turn flow

Pick one of the habitat tile and wildlife token pairs on display in the middle, join the tile to your own landscape, and place the token on a tile that allows it. If none of the pairs appeal to you, you can instead take an action that returns tokens and makes new pairs.

3. Key rules

Each animal scores differently depending on its placement pattern (grouping with its own kind, forming herds, pairing up, standing alone, and so on), and habitats score more the wider a single type runs unbroken. The wildlife scoring cards are picked at random each game, so strategy changes from game to game.

4. End condition

The game ends when every player has placed all their tiles and tokens and there is nowhere left to place, and then you add the animal pattern points to the habitat run points, and the highest score wins.

💡 Master tip

Read how the wildlife scoring cards score first, decide which animals to load up on, and sketch the big picture so your habitat and wildlife placements do not work against each other. Rather than focusing on a single animal, going for two or three at once is the steadier plan.
