Top 9 · #6 of 40 in Strategy
A leading euro strategy game where you take one of 14 different factions and transform planets across space while developing your research. It is the science fiction remake of Terra Mystica, and the asymmetric faction powers and the modular board call for a different strategy every game.
1. Setup
You combine the hex space sectors at random, each player picks a faction with its own abilities, and you place mines on your starting planets. Factions differ in the planet types they can use and in their starting resources, so strategies split apart from setup onward.
2. Turn flow
Each round, after choosing a round booster (bonus tile), players take turns performing one action - build a mine, upgrade a building, start a Gaia project, advance on a research track, or take a power action - until everyone passes.
3. Key rules
Power cycles and charges through the bowls, from area 1 to area 2 to area 3, and you gain power when you build next to an opponent's buildings. Advancing a research track gives you a bonus right away.
4. End condition
When the fixed 6 rounds are over, you add up the final round goal points, the research track points, and the bonus for your connected network.

💡 Master tip
Push your research tracks up early (Gaia Project and Navigation especially) to expand faster, and work out the requirements for forming a federation in advance. If you neglect your power cycle your late-game actions get badly limited, so keep checking your power bowls every round.
