How Skull King scoring works

Scoring

BidResult
1 or moreExactly right earns 20 points per trick bid. Wrong by any margin loses 10 points per trick off (over or under alike)
0Zero tricks taken scores 10 points per card dealt that round. Taking even one trick loses that same amount per card dealt
Bonus (only if the bid is hit)Points
Each standard-suit 14 (green, purple, yellow) captured+10 each
Trump-suit 14 (black) captured+20
Each Mermaid taken by a Pirate+20 each
Each Pirate taken by the Skull King+30 each
The Skull King taken by a Mermaid+40

Bonuses are earned only if that player hit their bid for the round. No matter how dramatic the capture, a missed bid earns no bonus.

Frequently asked questions

When do pirate powers have to be used?

Immediately after the trick that pirate won. The only exception is Harry the Giant, whose power may be used even after a round's final trick, when the other pirates' powers would no longer matter.

What happens when the Kraken and the White Whale are played in the same trick?

Whichever was played second determines the outcome. If the White Whale is played before the Kraken, the trick is still destroyed, and whoever would have won leads the next trick.

If a Mermaid, the Skull King, and a Pirate all land in one trick, who wins?

The Mermaid always wins regardless of play order. Only the +40 bonus for a Mermaid capturing the Skull King applies; the Pirate-captures-Skull-King bonus does not trigger, since the Skull King did not lose to a Pirate.
